Will jogging while starting weight lifting make me lose the muscle I'm trying to build?

So I am 6'4", 165lbs and want to start exercising. I was planning on doing some weight lifting and than every other day go for a jog. I told a friend who is exercising already and he said that was a bad idea because the muscle I will be building will be burned away from the jogging I'll be doing.

It doesn't make sense to me, but is this true? Am I going to have to lift weights for awhile, and then I can throw in some jogging?

1. Hi Vodoo...if you want to jog 2 or 3 times a week, go ahead. It will not "burn away" your muscle unless you are jogging excessively every day. Drink a protein shake after your weight lifting workouts too, that will help feed and preserve your muscle.
