What is the right weight for me when I am lifting weights?

I am a huge 350 lbs 6'2. Usually sedentary. But I am now convinced that I need to make changes. When I am at Bally's to lift some weights, my wife get scared that I am doing it wrong (she said that I jerk as I lift or I could be over a weight lifting limit). My goal is to loose weight and body fat by cardio and building more muscles.

1. just because you jerk doesn't mean you are doing to much weight, in weight lifting meets, its called hitching, and you get disqualified from your lift, if its to much weight you wouldn't be able to do it
