weight lifting leg workouts vs running up hills or stairs?

its for football and for a receiver will running up stairs or hills be better than weight lifting

Public Comments

1. we do huge hills, and we dont do weights, but if u do weights for lets say a week, then u do hills and stairs everyday then u will have it a lot easier.

2. You should do both of them. Leg exercises such a squats build up leg strength but depending on the reps and such that works slow twitch muscle fibers. running up hills will increase explosiveness and quick feet.

3. You need to do both of them, they are different and if you do both of these types of workouts you will end up much further ahead than doing just one. i would say to do 2 days a week leg workouts and then doing the running workouts either 2-3 days a week. The running workouts will help you cardiovascularly also.

4. weights are better for developing strength, but hills are better for developing speed and endurance, stairs develop your agility as well, i would suggest doing both stairs and weights, but doing bungies and tire pulls are good too
ex.
3x stadium stairs (or 2x)
5x4x200m uphill (depending on your abilities 5x4x100m)
5x4x40m tire pulls (or 30m)
5x4x75m bungies
5x8x65% backsquat
3x6x85% backsquat
5x6x75% frontsquat

add or remove some of the workouts if you need to, but this is the hardest workout we do and it is great for strength development and the running will get your 40 down very fast
