Body weight workouts VS Weight lifting.?

Hi. I'm wondering if doing body weight workouts have any advantages over weight lifting. For example, all I've been doing for my biceps so far is chin ups. I'm wondering if chin ups as a bicep workout has any advantages or disadvantages compared to using weights?

Also, is it true that weight lifting makes you strong and bulky, while body weight workouts only build strength and keeps you lean?

Thanks.

1. body weight doesn't quite get the strength that you get from weightllifting. when i started doing bench press I gained the ability to do the one armed pushup.

2. Chin ups work the biceps triceps and abs. When a person who is overweight begins a weight program they usually start using their own body weight. When that becomes to easy, they move to weights and then slowly progress as each set of weights gets easy. The only way to get bulky is by increasing the size of the weights but if you get some light weights and do 12 reps in sets of 4 you will just tone up, not get bulky. Bulky only occurs when you keep lifting heavier weights, also you can stick to body weight if your happy with the results
