How can i improve my vertical jump and how long will it take with a lot of work?

I don't really have any weight lifting equipment, what are some good free weight exercises, and how long do you think it will take me to jump and extra 6" to 8" higher?

1. The only advice that I have is to do toe touches everyday (100+).
In case you don't know what they are, put your feet together while standing up, and go up and down on your toes without your heels hitting the ground...Do this at a good pace...
