what weight lifting equipment should I buy?
I'm a 14 year old boy and im on my highschools wrestling teams. I weigh from 98-102 and i'm 5'4. My abs are really starting to get toned but my arms are really scrawny.I really need to be strong to succeed in wrestling. Push- ups havn't worked for me. I wanted to know how much i should lift? should i lift at all? any suggestions??? thanks

1. You can buy yourself 5-25 lbs dumbbells and a bench. That's all you need for some good upper body workouts.
Sure, you can lift, just don't exaggerate on the weight.
2. You shouldn't go past bodyweight stuff at 14. Weight lifting before you're mostly done growing can stunt your growth and cause a variety of bone/joint problems.
3. madrox, why do I keep seeing you give the same stupid bullshit in every thread. I know plenty of 14-15 year olds that lift heavy weights constantly---deadlifting 400-500+--- and their doctors have told them they are perfectly fine and much healthier than the average person. They have not stunted their growth, damaged their tendons, or anything, and they lift far more weight than any 100 pound kid on these boards. I know people who started at 11 years old and are now 6'4+.
Get a squat rack.
Do you think having "toned abs" is going to help you at ALL in wrestling? You need strength.
4. If you decide to buy gym equipment it will really cost you. However enrolling in a gym can be way better because you will have a variety of free weights excercises available to do and save you thousands before you even invest in gym equipment.Starting at this age isnt bad but Id recommend you read up on bodybuilding articles and really educate yourself.you dont wanna damage any growth plates so Id go with strenth training and not weight training with the lower reps and bigger weights.Start gradually and youll have the body youve wanted after a year or so.
