How effective is weight lifting for burning calories?

So i ask this cause right now its winter and very very cold and icy out where i live and so i don't really want to run in that (but i do in the summer/srping/fall). so basically how effective is weight lifting for burning calories? and i do lots of weight with low reps rather than lots of reps with low weight, although i do mix it up as well.

1. If you want to lose weight, do low reps with a higher amount of weight. That builds muscle. More reps with lower weight tones muscle. It helps you lose calories, but it still isn't as good as running. The good thing about lifting is your muscles are always burning calories (not exactly sure how much), so even if you're sleeping you're still losing some.

2. depends on how often you lift them and how you lift them
