Should i start weight lifting if I'm going to join the rangers?

I am a junior in highschool and I am joining the army rangers. 11b with a option 40. What type of weight lifting should i be doing to prep for RASP and Ranger School? I am already running a mile a day and doing push-ups quiet often. I will eventually get my mile increased to 3 miles a day.

1. Ranger School is all about endurance. You had better be able to do at least 10 miles - without stopping - if you want to survive. You won't run anywhere near that distance in School, but you will be going from early morning to early morning without stop and without much sleep. You won't have to run those 10 miles FAST, just keep running. Actually compete in some races, it will help you. You don't have to WIN, just keep going until you finish.

And remember - stay hydrated!!

2. Come back in 5 years and let us know which McDonalds you're working at!

Fvck, 5 days ago, you didn't even know what an 11X contract was, and now you're going to be a Ranger straight out of high school! See above comment!

3. IF you manage to make it through basic and airborne school these are the things that you should do in order to be prepared for the physical portion of RASP. As for the mental portion there really isn't anything anyone can tell you because you either have that or you don't. For the physical portion you'll need to be able to do at least 80 pushups, 90 sit ups, and 10-15 pull ups in order to max the strength part of the pt test. You will then be required to run a 2 mile in at least 13 minutes, 5 mile in at least 40 minutes(which i would recommend 36 or lower) and then a 12 mile ruck march with a 35-45 pound ruck. There will be one more event that must be completed and that is the swim test. You will have to swim 15 meters keeping your weapon above water in uniform and boots, jump off the high dive and retrieve an item in the pool and swim back, and jump into the water and don't come up until you take off your LCE without any part of your body coming out of the water(if the top of your head comes out then you're done). After all of that you then have to survive Cole Range which is the land navigation test and one big smoke fest. When I went through in 2004 we got 2 hours of sleep over 3 days and we had medical training and land nav. training. The other time that we were awake we were constantly being smoked because the instructors were bored and because of stupid ass mistakes made by other people. Well there you go good luck little dude.
