Whey protein supplements work only for weight lifting?

I'm very skinny and I just started using supplements (this whey protein that has 52g per serving I got from Wal Mart). I was wondering if this will only work if I drink it after lifting weights? Like if i do chest exercises and things like that will it do anything if I drink it then? or only if I lift weights?

1. a supplement is just that - it is a supplement to your diet. if you aren't getting enough protein from your ordinary diet, then you should take whey protein to meet your requirements. it is often used by people who don't eat meat, as their diet often lacks protein.

regardless of whether or not you lift weights, you need protein in your diet to live. speak to a nutrition specialist to find out how much protein you need in your diet, and then figure out if you need protein supplements or not

2. Usually its best to take a weight gainer after you work out. If you're really trying to gain weight there are several other things you can do to make a difference. One, is to eat at least 6 meals a day. People who have a hard time gaining weight, really have to pack in some calories. Another thing, is to drink lots of water all day...at least 8-10 8oz. glasses a day. You'll be surprised if you just do this along with your weight lifting and protein shake. But here's a good website that even shows you have to get started and what supplements you can start with. Hope that helps!
