Does weight lifting with cardio workouts help lose weight?
I thought using dunbells would make you gain muscle mass?
my friends say it makes you get a slim figure and promotes weight loss

1. Heavy resistance training is the most important thing after diet for fat loss.
This is what will allow you to preserve muscle so you look 'toned' and defined once you've dropped the fat (rather than just a smaller version of how you look now, with the same bits you're unhappy with). More muscle also means a higher metabolism, so you definitely want to hold on to, or increase the muscle base you have, for fat loss.
You need to work ALL your major muscle groups- you can't spot reduce.
Then you can look at extras like cardio to help create a calorie deficit. But cardio is by far the least important thing, and you can lose fat effectively without it.
Make sure you're getting at least one rest day a week with no exercise at all.
Focus on losing inches/dress sizes rather than actual scale weight- it's how slim you look that matters, not how little you weigh.
2. well weightlifting can burn calories so yh you will lose fat but you will replace it with muscle which is good
3. Yes, because imagine this; you are running on the treadmill and you get off, you look down and you see you burned 200 calories. After you get off the treadmill though do you keep burning the calories? No, but when you have muscle, the muscle naturally burns calories. I dont remember the exact number but there is certain number of calories you burn a day per pound of lean muscle mass you have, and take into consideration the average person can only gain 5 - 10 ibs of lean muscle mass per year so it will take awhile, but it pays off in the end.
4. Weight lifting with heavy weights uses up a lot of energy in order to build muscle. Big muscle mass also burns fat more than other tissue. So lifting weights does have a cardio effect on the body.
If you lose lower weights and do lots of reps, this builds endurance, but not much muscle mass. As a result it cuses more weight loss.
Either way, you are burning fat, but heavy weights = muscle mass, lower weights = toned and more weight loss.
5. Both cardio and resistance work uses calories and, depending on what you are doing with regard to diet, may help you lose weight.
6. You might not believe this, but if you stick to a healthy dietary habits by eating small meals throughout the day like every 3 hours, protein shakes and copious amounts of water you will lose body fat and maintain size. Things like bread and pasta should be kept to a minimum, they are still needed and are good if you need that extra energy to get through a workout. Just don't over do them! Losing muscle mass occurs when you are on a 'diet' that denies your body the nutrients needed to sustain strength. 7. I found this on this website. There are more tips and info.
1. If what you are eating has less than 1 carb, count it as 1 carb just to be sure.
2. Totally avoid caffine at least for the first two weeks on the program.
3. Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of plain water or seltzer daily.
4. Don't weigh yourself more than once a week
5. Take starting measurements as well as weight - sometimes you'll lose inches before pounds
6. Avoid any type of "low carb" sweetener for the first two weeks
7. Don't compare your loss to someone else's - this is a YMMV thing (your milage may vary)
8. Stalls are common around the third week so don't panic
9. If you follow your plan to the T and don't lose, consider Candida as a possibility and avoid vinegar, cheese, mushrooms and any other fermented food
10. Have bloodwork done before starting so you have a comparison
11. Cholesterol can be elevated in the first few weeks til your body adjusts - make sure your doctor knows that you're doing low carb and when you started
12. Don't blame the diet if you don't read your plan book -- blame the diet if you don't read the labels -- Don't blame the diet if you don't follow the diet
