How would I go about olympic weight lifting? And someday competing? I am a 17 year old guy from the US and have looked at the stats of the 56kg competitors. Their heights and weight match mine. Except I can't lift as heavy as them yet but I know I can match their numbers within about a year. I am quite excited and never really watched the olympics because I always thought smaller guys like me didnt have sports they could compete in so I never really took an interest. I would just have to weight train again. I have always been the short guy with strength and control since i was in kindergarten. They always used me as defense in football because they said no one would expect a small person to do much. Weight lifting is something I want to do. How would I go about getting into the sport to someday compete? I wouldn't mind gaining some pounds for a higher weight divison either if I had to.
Weight Lifting - Olympic weights correct amount? I have bought a 100kg weights set and my friend is convinced that the bar is only 20kg in weight but the weight plates that came with it are as follows - 2x15kg, 2x10kg, 2x5kg, 4x2.5kg, 4x1.25kg, this equals 75kg - does this mean the bar is 25kg in weight? I would appreciate any feedback as if he is wrong and I believe the bar is only 15-20kg I am seriously under estimating my deadlifts.
Why isn't Mariusz Pudzianowski on Poland's Olympic Weight Lifting Team? It would certainly help Poland to win a few more medals, seeing as he is the World's Strongest Man! I know the obvious answer is that he would fail the drug tests, but if that is the only issue, then can't he just be clean for a few months to get them out of his system for the Games? Even without supplements he should still be able to put up quite a show!

Olympic Weight Lifting - 77kg? I saw today that SA Jaehyouk won the Olympic Gold Medal for the Men's 77kg weightlifting competition. He is around 5'5" in height and is a top lifter. But I was wondering what people like him do in order to lift like that? What kind of training do they do? What I mean is that these people lift so much and so obviously have tremendous power, but they maintain a small frame i.e. small body. Very cut up, not very bulky and tremendous power. What type of weight training is involved?
Olympic weight lift exercises? i want to know if i just did the Olympic weight lifting exercises that they do there and some bicep curls or some other exercises would that be a good work out if i want to keep it small if it was heavy weight's

How do I do olympic weightlifting while traveling? I love to travel for long periods of time, but lifting weights, let alone olmpic weight lifting, isn't exactly an easy feat on the road. I have worked my way up to a one-rep max of 110 lbs for the power clean and want to maintain, if not increase, that max. But with the amount of time I plan to stay away, how do I do it? How do I olympic lift on the road?
Becoming an Olympic Weight Lifter? I'm currently 15 standing 5 feet 11 inches and weigh 179 with 20% body fat. I've recently been weight lifting for around a year and in love. I would really like to try an go far with it. Is it possible starting now and training for 4-8 years to be able to qualify for the US Team? Are my height and weight right for lifting? And last where could I find a trainer and competitions in Tennessee? Yeah I get what you are saying but I'm trying to find a team
What kind of weight lifting regime should I be on, I'm a (22 yr old male,230lbs in weight with stocky build)? Hello everyone I'm here to ask how much weight should I be lifting. I want to start eating right also so I'm looking for help with that to. I really want to join a gym but its not really in my time schedule at the moment. So anyone with any knowledge as how I should get started, any supplements i should take (no steroids), and just in general what kind of weight lifting program I could do with what I have at the moment (how much i should be lifting and how many times). Really serious about this guys my commitment is at its peak, so I welcome any and all suggestions (except steroids) so alright you guys take care. p.s If you want look further more into just what I'm looking for you can email me at ldmanningjr1986@yahoo.com. I want to note, I'm not totally unknowledgeable to lifting weghts as far as proper form and ways to maximise my workouts and numero uno safety(I do plan on at times to be accompanied by a partner), but would like to know links and other thing that would help me out.
I'd like to start weight-lifting and some advice would be welcome? I want to start weight-lifting in my own home with barbells purchased from a Sport shop. By weight lifting I mean the deadlift, very heavy weights, not general gym weight training. Like an Olympic weight lifter: straight over-the-head stuff. How should I get started? At present I am 22 years old, male, 5' 10" and about twelve stone (about 160lbs I think). Slim build more suited to cross-country than working with weights. I go to the gym frequently only to circuit train and have little experience of lifting heavy weights over my head. Please help a beginner- thanks!

weight lifting vs aerobic for losing weight which is more helpful? My main concern is to try and lose weight. I am 48 so I am not trying to be mr. Olympic since that is out of my realm but I heard increase muscle would burn more calorie but I am also wondering for my age will I actually gain muscle mass. I really want to lose around my midsection any suggestions?
Where can I buy the "light" rubber olympic weights? I have just started attempting "Olympic" (I guess they are considered olympic lifts, but they are also mainstays of American football teams training too) type free weight lifting (Cleans, jerks, and snatches) and though I am no weakling (I've been lifting three times a week pretty vigorously for a couple years now) I am not ready to use the 45 lb plates (135 lbs) yet with those lifts, so it makes it very difficult not having the tall (45 lb weights) when lifting from the ground. I have seen on youtube videos of people doing these lifts with like under 100lbs but the weights are tall like the 45 lb iron plates. I've looked all over the web and haven't been able to locate them yet...anyone know where i can buy some of these??
Relationship between olympic event and athlete popularity? If you had an olympian who was destined to do phenomenally in more obscure olympic events (such as weight-lifting, throws, etc), if they were a marketable figure, would they receive even a glimpse of the popularity characters such as phelps and shawn johnson have seen?
Do you include the weight of the barbell? When I am weight training I never consider the bars weight as what I am lifting, just what is on the bar itself. Do you or officially should you include the weight of the barbell when weight training? Do they include the weight of the bar to the overall weight in the olympics for weight lifting? It seems as though people just include the bars weight to make them sound better, whos right? As far as I am concerned the barbell so I can lift alot of weight
Help looking for an Olympic Accommodated Bench (Bench Press, Incline etc).(Weight Lifting)? I'm looking for an inexpensive (nothing over $200) bench with a rack. The bench and rack has to accommodate: http://www.ironcompany.com/7ftolympicbar-chromebody-solidob86c.aspx a 7 foot 44LBS Olympic Style Bar. I was looking at this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gold-s-Gym-Olympic-Bench/11993391?findingMethod=rr but, It doesn't give the details in which if it accommodates the 7FT bar. To add, the bench is apparently a little less wide for broader shouldered people, which I happen to be. Also, the weight capacity is only 310LBS on the rack. I need help finding an inexpensive bench/rack that can accommodate a 7FT Olympic Bar. (Possibly with a Preacher Curl pad as well)... (I would like it to have other exercises as well). Incline is also a must. Help!

Would olympic weight lifters/powerlifters stronger then martial artists and MMA fighers ( read below ) ? By stronger I mean like say if an MMA figher did a headlock or got hold of them in some way would the Olympic weight lifters/powerlifters be able to break out of it. Olympic weight lifters/powerlifters lift heavy weights at low repetitions. They can lift some pretty heavy weight. Would Olympic weight lifters/powerlifters be stronger then martial artists and MMA fighers ? Indeed in a fight the martial artists & MMA fighers would have the edge because of their pretty techniques but if Olympic weight lifters/powerlifters were taught the same techniques as martial artists and MMA fighers would the Olympic weight lifters/powerlifters be able to beat them in a fight since wouldn't they be stronger or not ? Or does lifting weights have nothing to do with how strong/powerful you are ? Some well informed and relevant answers please. Thanks.
