Weight lifting belts. Which ones are great for lower back pains / sciatica.? Should I purchase a lifting belt? I was considering due to the assistance they provide in maintaining proper posture for an assortment of different exercises (free weights). Can Hepatitis be transmitted with a used weight lifting belt? I was given a belt that hasn't been used in some time though it was used for a period by someone infected with hepatitis. Weight Lifting Belt, Cheap vs Expensive? Hi guys, Im in the Market for my First Power lifting belt... Im getting into heavy enough weight now where i would just like to have one on hand for when im working close to max. The questions i have, is if im looking at two belts... same specs, both leather with same buckle but one is $25 and the other is $65 how big of a diff can there really be between the two? Mainly my concern would be if there would be any functional diff... Im sure the more expensive belt may be built to last long but thats not really a big issue for me. To be more specific, the two belts im looking at are the Schiek 2004 power belt ($50-60) and just and a couple diff generic leather belts that go anywhere from $20-40. **BTW, i greatly appreciate any advice on THIS issue... if your a person who just doesn't like belts please keep it to yourself.***
Help picking out a weight lifting belt? First off, if you are just going to say that lifting belts aren't good to rely on or that I am lifting too much weight, please don't bother posting-I am not interested. Also, please only answer if you have actual experience with them. If you are just taking an educated guess or repeating something you heard, don't post. Ok. I have recently started to lift real heavy weight to get ready for next rugby season. I haven't found my one rep max yet for squatting because of fear of getting injured. Right now I am squatting 380, 6 reps and can feel I can definitely do more weight, but don't want to push it without some support. I want to pick out a nice leather lifting belt that will give me the proper lower back support I will need to continue doing heavy lifting and more, but have no clue what to get. If you guys can offer some advice on the matter, please share. If it helps, I am 19, 130 lbs, 5'6", and have a 29 inch waist. My form is good and have plenty of lifting experience.
would you recommend going out and buying a weight lifting belt specifically for doing squats? Thanks? Also how would you be able to tell wheter you are doing them properly.
Weight Lifting Belt? Whats the purpose of a weight lifting belt? I find my lower back sometimes hurts after lifting, would wearing a belt help?
Weight training belts? hi, Lately i have been hack squating with 90kg's on my bar bell. since I started hitting over 80KG's, my lower back has been feeling some strain. I do lumbar exercises 2-3 days a week to help this. My body weight is 75 Kg's. Do you recommend gettign a weight lifting belt for squating? james, my dead lifts are ok. however certain crunches leave my back in a bad way after only 20
Why do professional weight lifters wear a black leather waist bag? It's not for back support, since that would be a weight lifting belt. I'm talking about during the day when they are away from the gym. I noticed that Hulk Hogan still wears one with his everyday clothes. What's inside the leather bag? All weight lifters aren't diabetic are they.
What present should I buy my weight-lifting boyfriend? I want to buy my boyfriend a present and I know that he likes lifting weights. He already has a belt. Can anyone think of anything fun and weight lifting related as a gift? (I already got a couple of power bars)
Belt vs. no belt when weight lifting? This is an ongoing argument in the lifting community. Some people always use belts, while other people never do. Of the people that do use them most often they are used during heavy or max weights, or while doing lifts that put a lot of strain on your back such as squat or dead lift. I used to always use a belt while doing power cleans, and squats etc. but I’ve recently stopped altogether. I know that some athletic programs such as the University of Oregon football team have no belts in their weight room and they frequently have players putting up tremendous amounts of weight on high back strain lifts (such as clean and jerk, squat etc.). The theory behind this is by not wearing a belt you are strengthening the muscles enough to not need one. I would like to hear other people’s opinions.
Is it dangerous to do dead lifts without a weight belt? For example, would it put too much strain on my back, or will my body just adjust to not wearing the weight belt so long as I use good lifting form?
what weight-training belt should i get? i'm looking to purchase a weight-lifting belt to support my lower back when doing squats. i understand there are different widths and types of belts. i can't find anything on google about it. what would you recommend?
Does weight lifting give you strength on the expense of speed and flexibility? am 15 years old and i train shotokak karate (black belt) i want to hit the weight room to hopefuly get as best as i could in sparring and so that one day i participate in full contact. Weight lifting: Should power cleans work the shoulders and back? I'm 21 and started doing power cleans for running/soccer and to jump and touch a basketball rim (a couple inches away). It's only been the sixth time I've done power cleans. The past couple of times I've had soreness in my back and shoulders. The soreness in my back feels normal like my back is getting a work out. The soreness/pain in one of my shoulders feels sharp when I make a down-up row movement and has me a little worried. Is this normal for the first few times? I'm just doing 135-155 lbs for 6 reps. I've been watching videos of people on youtube who appear to have good form. My other numbers are squat: 8 reps of 265 lbs, bench: 175 lbs for 8 reps, leg press sled: 630 lbs for 8 reps. I don't use a belt and I don't max. I feel stronger on my leg work because my upper body is thin. I weigh 165-170 lbs and I'm 5 ft 11.5 inches tall. And I'm a guy. Thoughts or similar experiences?
Where can I find sole leather scrap? Sole leather is made from vegetable tanned leather. Bends, backs or butts are the most common hides. At what distance from both ends of the pipe where we can place the lifting belt to a 12 meter, 42-inch pipe? Diameter of pipe is 42 inches, thickness is 19.8mm, weight is at 486 kg/m. Where shall we place the belt to prevent the pipes from bending damage. Or minimize the bending stress or moment.
How can women gain weight by gaining muscle? I have recently been trying to gain muscle in my arms and legs. I have always had a lifting regimen, but lately I have been lifting more weight and more reps as well as eating more protein. There isn't really any affect - no weight gain of any kind or change in body shape. I am very tone and slim (4'11, 95 lbs, no noticable fatty deposits), but my arms and legs still look like sticks. The strange thing is, I am actually strong - can bench 140lbs, black belt in wushu (chinese martial art form), can do 160 lb leg press. What is going on with me? I guess I should indicate, I am a 25 y/o, married, one child, hispanid/caucasian mix.
I need some advice from experienced weight lifters? Ok as of May 3rd i have 10 solid months of free weight lifting under my belt. I havent been slouching at all either. I do it every 48 hours, inless im out of town or sick/hungover. I do: Day 1 Anywhere from 60-80% of my max on bench press Bicep Curls: Both arms simultaneously with either 15 0r 20 pound dumbbells Day 2 Squats and Calf Raises with maybe 70-95 pounds Forearms exercises with barbell In between sets i work up a decent cardio and sweat by playing basketball/shooting hoops. However i still continue to eat what i want. Although i have cut back on sugars/sodas and i eat any protein i can get my hands on + i drink up to a gallon of water per day instead of other drinks. I still have a beer gut im not too proud of and its big enough that it sticks out farther than my chest, yet i like my food too much to give it up. At this rate what will happen to me and what should i change. My main goal is to just look good....i dont want a washboard stomach.....i actually hated being skinny when i was young. I want to be thick, with impressive looking muscles, but not fat, with a double chin and a beer belly. I am currently 5'9" and my weight has been ranging anywhere from 198-215. My equipment is limited.....just a rusty old bench and set of free weights in my front yard...i feel like thats all i need anyways. Do you have any advice for me....im planning on really going after it this summer.

Many girls have on polka dots or stripes with huge weight-lifting looking belts, also I see the giant bright colored earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. WTF !?! Severe Lower Back Pain, Trapped Air or Something More Serious? I am a United States Marine Corps Staff SGT, I can endure pain, but this is getting out of hand! Today in the gym, me and a few buddies were working out, i decided to max out today, i did have my Weight Lifting Belt on, when i came to squats i decided to place 315 instead of the normal 285, well when i picked up the weights( I remember holding my breath )...I didn't feel anything i finished the workout and once i put down the weights i feel excruciating pain, under my rib cage in the left lower back region...I can barely move side to side and to just get up from bed or a seat i have to go through an extremely amount of pain for a few seconds.. Any ideas? Should i check my self into a hospital and take a look at it?
SUPER sensitive/painful lower back? I have had painful backaches since i was 10 yrs old. (Back then they told me to wear a leather weight lifting belt and take tylenol) hey it was 1993-anyway it gets so painful it even hurts worse when i lay down! Recently, the last couple years, my lower back is super sensitive to the touch. even if i am not in pain that day. my son accidentally brushed against it and it was such a sharp shooting pain i cried for 30 minutes. Could this have anything to do with getting an epidural for both pregnancies??? my children are 6 and 18 months old. its starts at my tail bone area and goes up about 8 inches is known as the "no touch zone" in my family.PLEASE HELPD!
Weight loss and muscle building? Hey everyone, I am just wondering how long it will take to see some results, mainly the loss of my belly fat, doing the following program based on my body data: 105kg or 220 pounds 6ft or 183cm Body mass index of 29.9 Have a slight belly which sticks out about 1.5 inches from my belt line but doesn't hang over or anything. This is what I have started to do: 1hr fast paced walk session through hilly streets 2-3 times per week. 1hr weight lifting gym session 1 per week. Lifting 20-25kg at the moment with 3 sets of 8 reps on many different workout machines including a stomach cruncher. Bicep and shoulder excerices with 10kg max per arm dumbell set 20 minutes 2 times per week at home. I would do more but I commute 4 hrs a day to and from work so I'm already short on time. So in consideration of all this, how long do you estimate before I get bigger shoulders, arms and lose this belly? Thanks for your help! By the way, I'm 26 years old.

Should I Use a Lifting Belt? So Ive started doing squats at the gym for the first time in a year. Right now the most weight I squat is 160 pounds, which is 10 more than I weigh. I dont think that I would need a belt for 160 pounds but I wanted to be sure, because I really dont want to hurt my back. And if I dont need one for 160 pounds, at what weight would I need to start wearing a lifting belt???
Huge Question on Weight Lifting Belts (squatting)? How important is a weight lifting belt? As far as I can tell by the research I've most people don't use the belt unless it's for a very heavy set. As for myself I'll be using it for squats and deadlifts. I've been lifting for about 6 years now. When I was in HS I was able to max squat 605 with the belt. I actually think I used the belt fairly often at that point. But now that I'm 3 years removed from HS and still lifting is it important? I would also like to add that I do suffer some lower back pain and I'm not insured so its hard to get it checked out.
please tell me if i should buy this belt for bodybuilding.? i have developed a good shape of my body with medium weight lifting. now i want to add a little mass so i want to lift heavy but i want to use a belt. which belt should i use. i have a belt but when i put is on tighting it doesn't put support my back instead it is tighter on my love handle. i think because it is not a leather belt and kind of cheap. so what do u think i should buy this belt. http://cgi.ebay.com/4-wide-weight-lifting-belt-weightlifting-back-support-/250668308845?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5cfed96d
Weight lifters and their belts? Belts that weight lifters wear so they don't blow out their rectums. I have a question about weight belts.? So I'm planning on lifting a set of 40lb dumbels (correct me if my spelling is wrong). I know I need a belt to protect my back and other things but I have a kind of like Velcro belt for heavy lifting my brother used it when he used to lift heavy things at his job. So can I use this or do I have to buy a designated one. I've worn the belt and it feels safe it just makes my back straight.
i'm 6 foot about to start weight training, but i need some guidance, also on whether to start taking creatine? i am 6 foot, i think its crucial you know my weight but i don't know it, my dad reckons since im very skinny i can't be less then 60kg-65kg because of my height. In a few days, my weight set(90kg), weight bench, barbell, dumbell, weight lifting belt gloves, wraps , skipping rope and punching bag. What should i start off doing, any websites to see, my diet will be shitty, although i have the milk, my fitness used to be good, last year, rescently i have smoked a lot in the past year, but two years ago i smoked even more, and i stopped and got fit, by running a lot and i could do runs faster than most in my school of 1000, then i stopped.. Also when should i start creatine, or not start taking creatine, all im looking for is to really bulk up, but have more of a fighting physique, because atm i get into some fights, and its not like when i was younger that just being aggresive helped, i got nothing other than a "old school boy" technique on how to throw a punch that's probably useless. Don't worry, i'm really not that interested in getting in fights, but it is fun, although still im not looking to be some pumped football hooligan, just once in a while, the main thing is, im going into year 11, and i'm a nerd at heart, so i'm stopping smoking ganja, aswell as cigarettes for sure, and don't touch other stuff anyway.. I always go on to much, cause i can type fast, sorry, and thanks, sam

Using a weightlifting belt in discus? I'm a very keen discus thrower and hold many regional records at the age of 15. I'm not here to brag I'm looking for guidance. I currently own a weight lifting belt and I've seen a small number of some athletes wearing one. My question is, Is there any gain from it? Is it worth me throwing with one to see if it helps? is there a disadvantage? or is it for injuries? Any help will be appreciated, Thanks you.

Do I really need a weight lifting belt? Please read? I am 42 y.o. I weigh 150 pds at 5 foot 8. I can bench my body weight comfortably. I have a low back injury from a car accident 20 yrs ago. It hurts on and off, although I am lucky. I know people with no history of car accident who have worse back pain than I do. I accept the fact that I will never be big, huge or musclebound. I just do light work with weights for overall fitness - to get me away from the TV - that sort of thing. If I do squats with 135 pds (MAX that I will work out with) do I need a weight lifting belt? What's would be the best weight-lifting belt for me? I don't usually wear a weight-lifting belt because I never really needed one. I've had a sore/injured lower back recently, and I was stupid enough to go to the gym. One thing led to another and I ended up hurting my lower back while putting the weights away. It was ridiculously painful, and I couldn't bend over at all without pain shooting from my lower back down to my left leg. I went to the doctors and they said that I managed to injury lower back to the point where my sciatic nerve was being compressed everytime I bent over. He said I needed a lot of rest and ice, and it would heal up on it's own. It's been a week since the injury, and after lots of stretching and icy-hot, I don't feel any pain any more. I want to start my weight-lifting regiment again, but I'm afraid of reaggrevating my lower back again, and feeling the paralyzing pain again. Would a weight-lifitng belt prevent any injuries from coming back? and what brand/ type would you recommend that I buy for my case?
Where can I buy a belt? I am currently doing football weight lifting for my school. I often have to stay at a station for a good 20 to half an hour longer than normal simply because I cannot obtain a weight lifting belt to attempt heavy weights or max out. Will weight lifting stunt my growth? I have been very sports orientated my whole life. Went to Taekwondo received my black belt and went to boxing for about 1 year. So that is 5 years of training. I am very buffed out and muscular. I am 14 years old and i am 5,5 or 5,6 i am not sure. I just quit boxing and started taking basketball. But I'm afraid i might lose my biceps and arm muscles. So i started lifting (while sitting down) ten pounds on each arm. I push my self til my arms are dead. Haha. I was just curious as to if its healthy. I live in a condo so its not like i can go outside and do pull ups and jog and stuff. Also will sitting down help lifting not harm my body? I've been lifting since 4 months ago.

In the past, every time I try to do this, my lower back would start aching and the pain would only get worse each consecutive day. Would one of those belts help prevent this?
Where can I purchase a weight belt for work outs at a gym? I do alot of dips and my old gym used to provide a belt that you can hang weight plates on to add more strength to your dips. Weight lifting belts? Hey guys i saw one day on the net or in my e-mail box about weight lifting belts. They had different styles and designs. I saw the famous hulk hogan NWO belt that hogan wore to wrestle. I also saw some nascar and other various types of betls. I was wondering where i could find these belts, i looked on ebay and nothing came up. i went there but nothing there, one web site only has those original black or brown ones. Hey thanks for helping me thou.
